In a person whose brain activity has had its frequency disrupted by a physical or emotional trauma, the brain’s waves may appear imbalanced.
iTMS directs short magnetic pulses to the area of the brain in need of stimulation to help synchronize the alpha waves and restore balanced brain wave activity.
Here’s how it works:
iTMS sounds like a gentle tapping above your head – and the results are rapid. This painless, non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical treatment plan consists of approximately twenty 30-minutes sessions, ideally conducted within a month. But results can be observed in as little as a week.
A few key terms to help you understand how iTMS works:
Alpha waves – The Alpha wave (8-12Hz) is the “carrier wave” that ties the communication of the brain together. When this is disrupted it leads to pathology. iTMS helps restore central synchrony.
EEG – An electroencephalogram measures electrical impulses in the brain and records them as patterns of waves that can indicate conditions such as sleep or seizure disorders, dementia, depression and brain injuries. EEGs are recorded by small “crown” of sensors placed on the head during a painless, 5-minute procedure.
Transcranial – a procedure that passes across or through the skull.
Magnetic stimulation – Small electric currents are directed from a stimulator device to a coil-shaped magnetic field generator that is positioned about the head. The “coil” transmits the customized pulses to the brain.
